"CREATING ONE’S LEGACY"
presented by the Endowment Board of The Church of the Good Shepherd
August 6, 13, 20
Some of the best gifts a person can give family members include the directives for medical, legal, and spiritual wishes in case one becomes very ill or dies. These issues are not easy to think about, and even less easy to talk about, but having one’s affairs in order creates a peace of mind for all involved.
To help people think through what can be complicated and difficult choices, the Good Shepherd Endowment Board sponsored three sessions entitled, “Creating One’s Legacy.” These three presentations took place on August 6, 13, and 20. Each session is approximately an hour. Please enjoy the recordings below as well as the documents that are referenced in the sessions.

The Church of the Good Shepherd has five endowment funds as of 12/31/19, four of which are designated funds and one of which is a non-designated fund. They are identified below. These funds are overseen by an Endowment Board consisting of church parishioners. The board meets at least four times a year and more often if needed. The funds themselves are managed by Reynolds Investment Management, Inc. of Greenville SC. The board and Reynolds meet at least once per year to review investment policies and performance.
By and large, the Endowment Board has adopted policies and procedures as outlined by the Episcopal Church Foundation, including enabling resolutions authorizing each fund, policies and guidelines for investments, spending, gift acceptance, etc. It is vital that donors to our funds have complete confidence in the management and usage of the monies entrusted to the Church.
At 12/31/19, the Church of the Good Shepherd had five funds:
The Shepherd Fund
The Second Century Fund
The Hines Hall Fund
The Conkle-Rowe Scholarship Fund
The Good Shepherd Endowment Fund
The Shepherd Fund supports Outreach ministries and was created in 1999.
The Second Century Fund supports the historic church and its grounds, and was created in 1995 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Church.
The Hines Hall Fund supports the non-historic property including the parking area and was created as a challenge campaign in 2013.
The Conkle-Rowe Scholarship Fund supports post-secondary educational needs and was created in 2019. It is named for Henry Conkle, our long-time church warden, and Pat Rowe, a long-time advocate of education and current head of the Scholarship Committee.
The Good Shepherd Endowment Fund takes in non-designated gifts and can be used for any purpose.
